This episode has been a long time in the making, or certainly a long time coming anyway.

Listeners have been asking for an interview with Matt Calvani virtually since I started producing this show four years ago.

Matt not only warrants an interview because of his contributions as a surfboard shaper,

but he also fills a unique space kind of within this show because there's no Matt Calvani label. He actually shapes for Bing

surfboards, a brand that was founded by Bing Copeland long before Matt started shaping. Most people

that I have on this show are kind of have bootstrapped their own brand, started it from the

beginning. Not the case for Matt Calvon.

He's now the owner of the company Bing Surfboards,

and he's responsible for a 58-year legacy

and for keeping the brand fresh and ushering it through this modern era.

And he's definitely navigating both those things.

He's keeping some of Bing's original foundational business principles intact, but then

he's also building boards for the likes of Dave Rostovic.

So our conversation covers business strategy, board design, how to manage work-life balance,

and really quite a diverse range of topics.
