This story began over a decade ago.

My uncle had been a police officer for nearly 30 years.

In that time, he will tell you, he has seen just about everything there is to see.

Drug busts, domestic disturbances, car accidents, even delivered a set of twins once in the parking lot of a denny's.

He has hundreds of stories that would rattle even the most hardened horror fanatics.

But the one I'm about to share with you is perhaps the strangest in his repertoire.

I feel I must warn you, the story contains graphic content and is not for the faint of heart.

In the year 2002, my uncle worked as a state patrol officer in southern Georgia.

He frequently traveled those desolate two lane highways between larger towns,

with the only signs of civilization, where the occasional rest stops, truck way in stations,

and run down 7-Elevens that set off of every exit.

During the time, most of his calls revolved around vacationers traveling from up north to Florida,

who'd run into car trouble, a flat tire or overheated radiator, stuff of that nature.

Most of his calls, as he described them, were uneventful.

In August of 2002, all of that would change.

It was just after a summer downpour, a little before sunset,

when my uncle got the call that an 18-wheeler had hydroplained and jackknifed into the pylon of an overpass.

The accident had blocked traffic, and it was quickly backing up.
