Okay, Kenna, today I wanted to ask, how much do you get paid to take out the trash at your house?

Uh, nothing. Oh, okay. How about how much do you get paid to do the dishes? Uh, up the trash at your house? Nothing.

Oh, okay. How about, how much do you get paid to do the dishes?

Nothing.

And what about like making the bed?

Nothing.

And I'm guessing though you still do those things even without someone paying you money to do them?

Yes.

Yeah, me too.

I mean, not as much as my boyfriend but i do a little you know

so what's the motive or incentive to do those tasks if you're not receiving like a cash payment

of money i just don't want my place to be disgusting right it's like we just want the places we live

to be a little more enjoyable for us to live in right i don I don't want to live in a punk house anymore, man.

Right. We're past the punk house phases of our lives. I'm over, stepping over a mouse spleen that my punk roommate's punk cat killed in our kitchen.

And then we just let stay there for months on principle. You know, to get over that, to get to the bathroom, I'm done with that

stage of my life. So the clean house, all it does is make our lives and the places we live a

little bit nicer, and yet we all still do it. So today, I thought it would be fun to talk about

non-monetary economies, of which our households are a great example.

So when most of us think about money, we think about like exchanging our labor for cash, right?

Like at a job. And that cash we then use to purchase all of the things we want or need.

And usually we can't afford all the things we want and need. So then we just prioritize and then we get some of them. And then we keep on working, selling our labor in exchange for money, working exchange for money on repeat, on repeat, until we hopefully retire or we just die. Right. So here where we live in the U.S., money takes on a few different forms. We've got the green paper money. We have that same money
