it's a function of someone not knowing you.

She's going to talk about being clear about what success means to your employer.

If you don't know what success means to your employer. If you don't know what success means to your employer,

then you just feel a little lost.

Number two is to build solid relationships.

So when an opportunity comes up people think of you and number

three be willing to take risks. Carla's going to get into all three of these and she's

coming up.

You should never assume that you understand what success looks like.

Whenever you start a new assignment, work for a new boss, go to a new department, or start with a new company.

Always ask the question, what does success look like in this role?

What has to happen in order for you to say that I knocked the cover off the ball and the ball out of the park.

If the person that you ask that question of says, oh, Carol, I tell you, just do the following five things and I will consider that and out-of-the-box performance.

Now you know exactly what you're playing for.

You know how to maximize your success in that role.

But more importantly, if that person says,

I don't know, you always do a good job.

Just do what you always do. Married note to self, Houston, we have a problem.
