It's been a long time since the Lutheran battle for the Bible.

In my denomination, the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod,

some things were dealt with very decisively at the time.

The higher critical method of biblical interpretation was dealt with decisively.

My days in the seminary, very shortly after that battle for the Bible,

a lot of times spent in the classroom debunking higher criticism and a low view of the Bible

and encouraging us to read the Bible as God's word.

Some things that led to the battle for the Bible were not addressed as vigorously.

One of them, gospel reductionism.
