Summary

In today's episode, Emily has guest Garen Pido on. Garen lives in California and is a registered nurse, mom of 2 and wife to an LA Firefighter. She has recently made some waves on Instagram following her post about segregation and discrimination at her place of work. Garen was told that she was no longer allowed to sit inside to eat or drink while working her shift and can no longer go to the break room with her fellow co-workers all due to not being vaccinated. Garen has been a long standing advocate for bodily autonomy and informed consent but has remained respectful of others' choices whether she agrees or not. She and Emily talk about her experience as a pregnant nurse during the pandemic and how things are going for her now at work as she stands up for her faith, integrity and freedom.

Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Evolve with Emily Show. I am your host, Emily Hayden. And today I have a guest from Southern California. She is a mom of two

0:22.8

wife of an L.A. City firefighter. She's a registered nurse. And she's here today to share a little

0:29.0

bit about her experience over the last year and how the medical industry and working at a hospital

0:35.8

has evolved from what it was before 2020 to what it

0:39.9

currently is given all of the current mandates and different things that are going on. So let's give

0:45.4

a warm welcome to today's guest, Garen Pito. Welcome to the show. Hi, thanks for having me. I'm so

0:51.3

excited to be here. Thank you. Yeah, I first came across you on Instagram.

0:56.5

It was an Instagram post that you made, which if you guys are watching on the YouTube video,

1:00.8

we're actually going to put that picture up on the screen right now. And I want to read the post for the

1:05.6

listeners that maybe haven't seen this post. It says, for over five years, I've advocated for patients bodily autonomy,

1:13.4

respecting their medical choices, even if I may have disagreed with them. Today, I was told I would

1:19.2

no longer be able to sit inside to eat or drink while working on my shift. I can no longer commune

1:24.9

in the break room with my fellow co-workers. I was told I need to sit outside in the name of health to protect Vax individuals.

1:33.1

Sorry, I thought that was the Vax's job, but moving on.

1:36.3

Mind you, I also am required to get tested every shift and need a negative test to be able to work.

1:42.1

So if I'm negative, why am I required to sit outside?

1:45.5

So here I am, outside during my lunch break, swollen eyes, because I genuinely can't believe

1:50.9

someone could make a policy like this and then actually carry it out. A policy of segregation

1:55.8

and discrimination based on medical choice. It's not even about the vaccine or health anymore. It's about politics and

2:02.5

compliance. Will you comply or how far can we push you until you do? I shouldn't even have to

2:08.0

explain my choice to not receive the Vax. That's between me and my doctor. I am tired. I am tired

2:14.1

of the constant battle of these policies that make zero sense.
