Hello, Wine Ambers, my name is Jesse Meekham, and this is podcast number 188 for you need a budget where we teach you four rules to help you stop with me paycheck to paycheck, get out of debt and save more money. College is in session, which means some of you that need some student loans

to get by. You've gotten a big loan disbursement.

There is a whole debate about should you borrow money for college and all that.

We aren't even going there, right?

You're following Rule 1, you're getting your priorities right.

Following Rule 2, Rule 3, all that.

That's your call.

Now, where I have a very strong opinion

is around this big old fat loan disbursement that you just got.

You need to break that up into monthly amounts and create scarcity for yourself. We do not want you making your priority decisions and I'm putting

priority in air quotes at this moment. Your priorities go all out of whack when you have a large pile of money just in your checking

account. So break it up, hide the rest of it, and you just deal with prioritizing when you have a reasonable monthly amount to look at.

That will help you feel poor and you are poor and so you should feel that way.

When you feel poor, when things are scarce, that's

when your real priorities come out and those are the priorities we want you to be

spending toward not, hey all this money came in so I should buy that new computer.

None of that.

None of that.

Create the scarcity, break up that big amount into small monthly amounts, hide the other months away, far far away from your little

eyes, and then look at that small little amount and marvel at how broke you are and how careful you will need to be

with that teeny tiny amount of money that is your stipend.
