What is it about basements that give us the Hebe Gebes?

Some of the scariest horror movies of R times always feature a creepy basement.

Think of the McNeil Residence from the exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, the Evil Dead Psycho,

the people under the stairs, and there's literally even a movie called The Basement.

I was personally traumatized by my first basement in the 1990 blockbuster Home Alone,

which had a basement scene that has kept me above ground since I was four years old.

But it's not just movie producers that see the basement as more than a spot to toss next

year's Christmas lights.

In fact, Froy thought of it as the receptacle of the subconscious, and Joseph Campbell relates

the basement in his hero's journey as the Abyss, the unknown, the belly, the well, the

threshold, the underworld, and even the death.

A protagonist must face, while fighting off demonic forces of Satan's Hell before

emerging victorious in the final transformation.

However, unlike Campbell's hero, tonight's victim isn't sent to the basement to fight

off the demons and monsters from the underworld.

But instead to resist the wicked and vile torture and her eventual death from the evil lurking

above the floorboards.

So Jen, what are we drinking tonight?
