the best-selling author of the new book, The Unvanquished, the untold story of Lincoln's special forces,

the manhunt for Mosby's Rangers, and the Shadow War that forged America's special operations. This is a scene from

inside Patrick's telling of three generals, three Confederate generals, and a fish fry, April 1st, 1865.

They are Tex Rosser with a division, George Pickett with a division,

and Fitzhuevallee with a cavalry. They are enjoying themselves because nothing's going to happen today.

It's great to be with you today. This is the Notaway River, which is outside of Five Forks, Virginia,

which is outside of Petersburg, which is at this point in 1865, the most important territory in North America.

And Lee tells these men that they have to hold at all costs.

But the weather isn't, it's kind of a little bit damp today, and they don't think there's

going to be any action.

So the day before, Tex Rosser is traveling with his headquarters wagon across the Nottaway River, which is teaming with a shad fish.

And they decide to dip their nets in the river.

And they bring in a massive hall.

And Tex Rosser decides to have a luncheon.

And we're at the luncheon right now. And, you know, servants are

providing the men with wine. It's, it's almost like it's before the war. They're enjoying themselves.

But they don't tell their adjutants where they are located, which is about a mile behind the

main line. And as they're enjoying themselves, an atmospheric anomaly occurs. They can't hear the
