Today we're going to be talking about the election of 1864.

And I've put on the screen here four ballots from that election.

And I want you to look at these ballots and think about what you see.

How are they different from ballots that we use today?

There's a lot of patriotic symbols for us today on the ballots. It's just the names.

And then also with the candidates they have which state that they're from.

And on our presidential ballots, I don't think we have those.

So there's a lot of patriotic symbols that you see, and also they list the state where the candidates are from.

Of course, the Constitution makes it so that you can't have a presidential candidate and a vice presidential candidate from the same state.
