Summary

We talk a lot about setting goals on this podcast, and it’s because creating goals (both personally or professionally) act as a lesson plan for your year. You’re able to focus on the things that matter the most to you and it keeps you from veering off the path too far.  At the start of this year, we sat down and shared some of our goals with you all. We’ve done quarterly check-ins and we are at the next check-in point of our journey! In this episode we are sharing some of our successes and failures when it comes to meeting our goals. It’s proof that no one is perfect and we all need a little accountability.  So grab your planners! Open up to your goals and let’s tackle them together as we share ways we’ve revamped and created a new path to meeting our 2023 goals.  LINKS: 158. Tackling the Year Ahead: What Are Our Plans? 170. Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your host, Michelle Emerson and Bridget Spackman. And we are here to make your life easier by helping you master your time, organization, and productivity as a teacher. Believe it or not, 2023 is already over halfway done. And that might have just really stressed you out. But we figured it was time for another

0:22.5

goal check-in because not only are Bridget and I accountability buddies, but we feel like

0:28.3

you're our little accountability buddy too. So in this episode, we are going to chat about how

0:33.9

our progress toward our quarterly goals is going.

0:42.9

But first, we're going to listen to a TSAH from Naomi, which is my sister's name as well.

0:47.1

But Naomi says, I always feel like I am behind on marking.

0:52.2

I'm a high school English teacher and a busy sports mom and never feel like I can make time for marking those writing assignments.

0:55.2

I feel so bad for my students because I'm almost two months behind schedule. I try making a power list,

1:00.2

but my to-do's just keep getting longer and more overwhelming. In class, we are expected to work

1:06.8

one-on-one with students and my prep, I usually am asking to cover for teachers that are

1:11.8

away. How on earth do I ever catch up? It feels like I am drowning. So it sounds to me,

1:19.4

Naomi, like, I don't know. I don't want to say that you're making it more difficult than it

1:25.8

needs to be. But I think sometimes when you get backed up,

1:29.3

either you have to just take something off of your plate where you're like, okay, this set of

1:33.7

assignments, I'm just not going to grade them. I know I've had those moments. Or you need to really

1:39.2

simplify the task so that you can get it done quickly without it taking too much time.

1:44.9

Now, we're obviously responding to this in the summer, so most likely this would be something

1:49.4

you could implement next school year.

1:51.6

But an idea for writing assignments, I think what makes them so difficult to grade is that

1:57.5

you feel like you have to leave very detailed feedback.

2:00.3

And that feedback is powerful for students,

2:02.4

but you don't want it to suck away too much of your time.
