All right, welcome back. This week, we are doing a deep dive into the qualifications for

0:24.6

overseers as described by the Apostle Paul and 1st Timothy 3 versus 1 through 7. I'll read it again

0:30.0

here. The saying is trustworthy. If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble

0:35.6

task. Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach,

0:38.9

the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

0:45.3

not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own

0:51.1

household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household well with all dignity keeping his children submissive,

0:54.6

for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church?

0:59.6

1:11.6

Now, today we're going to focus on verse two, but before we get to that, let me remind you the

1:16.1

question that you should be considering all week. Do I have what it takes to be an overseer?

1:22.0

So back to verse two here. Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife,

1:27.2

sober-minded, self-controlled,

1:29.5

respectable, hospitable, able to teach. So let's break it down. Paul says an overseer should be above

1:35.9

reproach. So I actually like how the King James Version translates this as blameless. And another

1:42.0

translation is irreproachable. So he's not saying that this man is really,

1:46.5

really good at hiding his bad qualities and, you know, just painting over his sins. It's saying

1:50.4

that this man lives with high levels of integrity at all times, regardless of if people are watching

1:55.2

or not. His character is solid. You know, it doesn't mean that he's sinless, of course,

1:58.8

but his life doesn't invite scandals and he has no, you know, glaring't mean that he's sinless, of course, but his life doesn't invite
