Happy May, you guys. May has always been my favorite month of the year.

Ever since I was a little girl and May was the last month of school, so that's probably why I liked it back then.

But as a gardener, I love May. The temperatures are warm and the garden is planted and you see so much growth.

I absolutely love it. May is also the time of year that I'm usually

putting mulch on my garden. It just kind of works out that way for us. It's when the soil finally dries

out enough where we can actually get a tractor full of the mulch. We need a lot of mulch with our garden.

And all the plants are at a perfect size to be able to add the mulch around them.

So hopefully you listened to last week's episode and you're sold, right?

Well, you may be wondering the most natural next question is, well, what do I mulch with?

I mentioned a couple of different methods last week in the episode, but I'm going to dive deeper into several different others. In fact, we're going to talk about nine different organic

mulches for your vegetable garden. And I do. I recommend organic mulches, ones that will eventually

break down into your soil because they will continue feeding the soil over the long term.

Although I haven't used all of these, I have used several of them. And we're going to talk about the pros and cons of

each. And I've done some research with different university extension offices and things like that

to try to get you the best information as I can. But let me tell you that when it comes to mulch,

the information that you find online,

even with reputable land grant university-based studies

and sources, is conflicting.
