Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. This is going to be the second to the last in this series on

0:22.5

Elijah. This is going to be a five-part series, as it turns out. We're going to be focusing

0:26.5

primarily this week on First Kings 21, but I want to tell you a little information about the

0:31.4

chapter's previous, 20, and the chapter after 22. Now, Elijah doesn't appear in those chapters,

0:37.4

which is why we're going to

0:38.5

skip them pretty much. In chapter 20, one of the other neighbors of Israel goes and fights against

0:44.5

them, King bin Haddad of Aram comes against them, and proclaims that your silver and your gold

0:50.6

are mine and the best of your wives and children are mine, and God sends a different messenger. God sends a different prophet other than Elijah to say, no, don't agree to this.

1:29.9

1:35.1

story. Now, sometime later, there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Nabath,

1:41.1

the Jesreolite. The vineyard was in Jesrio, close to the palace of Ahab, king of Samaria.

1:47.3

Ahab said to Nabath, let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden since it is close to my

1:52.9

palace. In exchange, I will give you a better vineyard, or if you prefer, I will pay you whatever

1:58.3

it is worth. But Naboth replied, the Lord forbid that I should give you the

2:03.0

inheritance of my fathers. So Ahab went home, sullen and angry, because Nabath, the Jesraelite, said,

2:09.1

I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat.
