Summary

0:57.9	but are definitely worth losing. Today's story is the start of a Welsh collection,
1:02.1	that I've been getting requests for since the podcast started. The collection is known as the Mabinogean.
1:07.8	And even though it's a collection, it was really only put together after the fact,
1:11.9	and the 11 tales that make it up are sometimes only loosely connected. The stories were written
1:16.5	between the 1380s and 1410, but there's a lot of debate about when they're set, with the 11th
1:22.2	century AD coming up a lot. The stories are fantastic, containing mysterious otherworldly figures,
1:29.4	shape-shifting, massive battles, knights, kings, queens, talking animals, and more. I am so glad we're
1:35.0	finally getting started on this. There are four main branches, in addition to a smattering of
1:39.4	other tales, so we'll jump in at the beginning. Amid a king, who just wants to go on a trip through
1:45.6	the Dark Forest? Pull looked at his attendance and servants. Who was that for a hunting trip through
2:01.1	the Dark, otherworldly forest? The servants and attendants looked at the king. They were as
2:05.7	excited as their choice was voluntary. The king started to do the math to see if that was an
2:10.8	insult or not, but decided to just get on with it. He told his nobles in such not to wait up,
