right down to the present. War made the U.S. independent, kept it together, increased its

size, and established it as a global superpower. Understanding America's wars is essential for understanding American history.

Music your host, James Early. Hello, welcome back to another episode of Key Battles of the War of 1812.

This is your host, James Early, as always.

In our last episode, we looked at how the Americans tried for the third time

to launch a major invasion of Canada. I entitled the episode Third Times, The Charm,

with a question mark at the end, and we found out that despite some initial successes,

the Americans were eventually forced right back out of Canada, right back into the U.S.

So the third time was, in fact, not the charm.

And in fact, it would be the last time that the U.S. would attempt to evade Canada ever, not just in the War of 1812.

Now, in this episode, the British are going to try to turn the tables on the Americans,

and they're going to go on the offensive.

They're going to take the war into the U.S.

They're going to launch several invasions and raids in various parts of the U.S.,

including the very capital, Washington, D.C.
