and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up. All right, welcome back to Matthew chapter 14. I'm going to pick up from

the beginning again. I know it's repetitive, but trust me, we need to hear this over and over and over.

Beginning in verse 22, immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other

side while he dismissed the

crowd. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray.

And when evening came, he was there alone. But the boat by this time was a long way from the

land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night,

Jesus came to them walking on the sea.

But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified and they said,

it's a ghost. And they cried out in fear. But immediately, Jesus spoke to them saying,

take heart, it is I. Do not be afraid. Verse 28. And Peter, answering him, Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.

And Jesus said, come. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.

Now, what a miracle. Now, before you get to the part that's going to happen tomorrow that everybody is well aware of, before you get to that, first of all, notice this, Peter got out of the boat. Peter walked on the water.

Well, the real question here, why in the world did Peter ask to come out and walk on the water? He says, Lord, if it's you, command me to come out to you on the water.

Well, here's why, because Peter is what's called a Talmudine. In the first century, every little boy and girl would have gone to Hebrew school. It was called Bettman Rash. And they would have memorized much of the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. And if you were the best of the best of the best, then you would have graduated to the next level of Hebrew school, and you would have studied really all of the Old

Testament. And then if you were the best of the best of the best, then you would have been invited to go

and study under a rabbi. And if you didn't make the cut, then you were told, listen, you love the Torah,

you love God, but why don't you go and learn the trade of your father? Well, if you'll remember that

Jesus meets Peter working for his dad, and Jesus invites Peter to follow Jesus as a Talmudine.

And what it means to be a Talmuddin is that you would be covered in the dust of your rabbi.
