πŸ“œ TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Proverbs 1:20-33

20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
    in the markets she raises her voice;
21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
    at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
    and fools hate knowledge?
23 If you turn at my reproof,
behold, I will pour out my spirit to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
24 Because I have called and you refused to listen,
    have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
25 because you have ignored all my counsel
    and would have none of my reproof,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
    I will mock when terror strikes you,
27 when terror strikes you like a storm
    and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
    when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
    they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge
    and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 would have none of my counsel
    and despised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,
    and have their fill of their own devices.
32 For the simple are killed by their turning away,
    and the complacency of fools destroys them;
33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
    and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”

And we take a passage from the scriptures and we apply it to everyday life.

And today I want us to think about the concept of wisdom. There is none of us who would say, I don't want to be wise. You know, that's

0:37.9

kind of a silly thing to think about. None of us want to be a fool. None of us want to be

0:42.0

lacking in wisdom. And so I think it's worth our time today to

0:47.4

begin thinking about the issue of wisdom and I want to start that process by telling you a story.

0:54.0

It's a real life story that happened in my wife's life.

0:58.0

My wife was raised in a Christian home.

1:01.0

Her parents at the time when she was born and then shortly after

1:05.6

were on staff with campus crusade for Christ, which now was known as crew. They were devoted

1:12.2

believers in Christ. They taught their daughters the scripture.

1:15.0

And my wife grew up understanding that in the scriptures could be found wisdom. In fact she remembers reading Proverbs

1:25.5

and hearing in the Proverbs how valuable wisdom was and then she came across

1:31.0

the passage in James that says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask.

1:35.8

And she as a young girl, probably six years old, seven years old, eight years old,

1:40.4

right in that time frame, began to ask God to make her wise.

1:47.0

First of all, I don't tell you that to impress you.

1:49.5

I mean, she was a six-year-old for goodness sake, and I had nothing to do with it. This was God's work in

1:54.1

her life. This was God being gracious to reveal to her the value of wisdom. And she

2:00.4

in her childlike innocent way began asking God for the wisdom that he says he will provide.
