PFI a somewhat dry sounding government scheme for raising money which nonetheless

has been back in the news in the last few weeks and especially in private

eye after a number of schools in Edinburgh and in fact the rest of Scotland at large have started

falling down.

Here is eye writer Jane Mackenzie on exactly what is going on.

The schools that were built under their PFI schools deal, the walls weren't actually attached

to the schools.

But they can't just have had freestanding walls.

What they'd done when they built it was they left out the wall ties,

which attached the external wall cladding to the building.
