More on that later. Today's expression is because of something.

Now, because of something is a very common expression. Everybody, I think, basically understands it.

But I want you to realize that because of something usually describes,

not always, but it usually describes a reason or an excuse explaining why something didn't happen or why something won't happen.

So in other words, because of something usually has a slightly negative meaning.

Not always, but I want you to look for examples on Google,

and I'll bet you find many examples that do have a slight negative nuance to them.

So let's listen to a dialogue, and that'll give you a good example.

Why didn't you call me last night?

Because of my phone's battery.

Why didn't you charge it?

Because of my forgetfulness.

I left it at school.

There you go. Two examples of using because of to explain why something didn't happen. Why didn't you call me last night? Because of my phone's battery.

My phone's battery was the problem. Why didn't you charge it? Yes, our cell phones

need to be charged. And the guy explains, because of my forgetfulness. I am a forgetful guy,

and I left it at school.
