So we're coming up to the

So we're coming up to the Platinum Jubilee Bank holiday. There's going to be lots of celebrations across the UK as well as the official kind of events and

parades. There will be an estimated 200,000 street parties and local events.

Tom, to mark this occasion, I mean what can we say at this point about the royal family

and the monarchy and the state of them?

It's a big question definitely.

Obviously Spights is a Republican publication,

but there's always a lot of, or at least this time around kind of low-level sneering whenever a Jubilee rolls around and I think

perspective on this is always you know whilst I want to abolish the monarchy enjoy the party

enjoy the four days off and I think in a lot of that discussion about isn't a lot of this

pageantry kind of ridiculous you know isn't why are we kind of

of celebrating this anachronistic institution there's often this kind of

undercurrent to it which is somewhat irritating which is

less about the institution of the monarchy itself which of course despite the Queen

general speaking being a quite a good egg is an acronym is a democratic outrage and all the rest of it.

Is that often the ire is directed at the people who seem to support it and enjoy it.
