Summary

In this episode of Meathead Hippie, I’m joined by Shawn Nelson, the founder of LoveSac and one of my favorite examples of what happens when creativity meets stubborn heart. We talk about how an idea born out of pure curiosity became a company that reshaped an entire industry—and what that journey actually looked like behind the scenes. This isn’t a story of overnight success. It’s a reminder that your ideas matter, that your instincts are worth following, and that the little thing you’re tinkering with today could be the thing that transforms your whole life. Shawn brings so much wisdom for anyone building, rebuilding, or dreaming again. If you want to dive deeper into Shawn’s world, you can explore more at LoveSac: https://www.lovesac.com And make sure to check out his book Let Me Save You 25 Years here: https://www.letmesaveyou25years.com Plus his podcast Let Me Save You 25 Years, which is such a treasure trove of hard-earned entrepreneurial lessons: https://www.letmesaveyou25years.com/podcast Learn about Emily's offerings at : www.emilyschromm.com Instagram.com/emilyschromm And Em's incredible sponsor, Maui Nui Venison: www.mauinuivenison.com/emily

Welcome to a meathead hippie podcast. I'm your host, Emily Schramm. We're kind of entering the age,

0:06.2

if you haven't already, of everyone being an entrepreneur. And I say that really aggressively,

0:13.7

like that, whoa, wait, what? But think about it. If you think about really tapping into your

0:20.1

purpose and embodying who you are and waking up every day, loving what you do, in some way, you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that that means you're going to have to create something yourself.

0:34.8

Whether or not that pays you or sustains you or is your nurturance for your

0:41.4

family, for your life, that is all variable. And many conversations can happen about that because

0:48.6

it's a slippery slope sometimes when what you love becomes what you do for work. But regardless, there's an activation that happens as a creator, as an entrepreneur,

1:00.1

that I find to be the most magnificent journey that one can embark upon.

1:06.7

And so today I get to talk to a very successful entrepreneur, Sean Nelson.

1:13.4

In 1995, Sean Nelson had a fun idea, put together what I would say is the best beanbag in the world called a lovesack.

1:23.2

And now today, many, many years later, he is a public-owned, owned, public-owned company and is

1:33.0

crushing it. I mean, in so many ways, he's been through lots of humble passages,

1:39.3

lots of humbling passages, lots of initiations, lots of changes, ebbs and flows. They say that,

1:47.4

you know, every seven-ish years, there's a change in the company's ownership or there is a total

1:53.5

rebrand. And since he's been with his company for over 20 years, I mean, it's just incredible

1:58.5

to talk to someone with this much knowledge. And I think no matter

2:01.5

where you are coming from as a business owner, entrepreneur, creator, a listener of Meathead Hippie,

2:07.6

if you are inspired by me in any way and you yourself want to follow your heart in any way,

2:13.6

you're going to find so much value in this podcast because Sean has so much life experience

2:18.7

and he is so open and willing to share and I can't wait to hear what most lands for you

2:24.7

and what most resonates the takeaways please share. Before I get into the podcast, before I hit

2:32.9

Go, just a huge, huge thank you to Maui-Nui-Venison.
