| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to Shemis Popery. I'm Joe Heschmire. And this is the first episode I've recorded since I did my debate with Ryan from needgod.net on Sunday. So I wanted to cover a few of the things. Anytime you do a debate, there's always like some stuff where afterwards you say, oh, I wish I'd spent more time on that or I wish there'd been more time to cover this topic. And this was no different. |
| 0:21.5 | I think the debate went really well. I still think there were some things I would have liked |
| 0:24.5 | to cover in greater depth, partly because I was under the impression we were going to debate |
| 0:29.5 | the resolution about whether baptism saves, whereas Ryan seemed to want to debate faith alone |
| 0:34.4 | instead. And I understand there's a connection between baptism saving you and |
| 0:38.7 | faith alone. And I want to explore that and then explore a few of the other areas. And I'm not going to |
| 0:44.4 | cover everything. So, you know, for example, one of the notable moments was when Ryan denied |
| 0:50.3 | that the latter half of Mark 16 was actually part of the Bible. |
| 0:57.4 | Mark 1660, do you think it should be taken out of the Bible? |
| 1:01.5 | Well, it's just not in the Bible. |
| 1:08.1 | And I think there's a really powerful case to be made there that he's showing the problem with Seles Scriptura. |
| 1:08.6 | I've been told for like a year now after pointing out that, you know, the church having infallible authority |
| 1:14.1 | is really important for determining the canon of Scripture that this is a ridiculous Catholic argument |
| 1:18.9 | and we can know this, you know, the canon from Scripture alone. |
| 1:22.5 | And here I go debating the canon and saying, hey, look, here's what Jesus says about belief in baptism in |
| 1:28.3 | Mark 1616, and he just says, you know, modern secular scholars don't accept it as valid, |
| 1:33.4 | so not part of the Bible. And I would just suggest there's probably more to be said about that. |
| 1:40.9 | But I'm not going to cover that other than what you've just heard. Here, I'm going to |
| 1:45.0 | instead look primarily at the arguments that he makes about justification, because, again, this was |
| 1:51.0 | not the point of the debate. But I want to cover that as well as this idea of whether baptism is |
| 1:56.0 | a work, which is closely related, of course, and then pitting faith against baptism, maybe some tools about how |
| 2:02.5 | we misread scripture sometime, and then the arguments from silence. And we'll get into all of that |
