The topic today is liars and the sin of lying. The internet

as you know is teeming with lies but this is nothing new. Perhaps it's much

easier to spread them today, but lies have been the devil's

language since the Garden of Eden. In John 8, Jesus had some hard words for

liars. He's speaking to the Jews who are seeking to kill him.

This is John 8, 43 and 44. Why do you not understand my speech?

Because you are not able to listen to my word.

You are of your father, the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer

from the beginning and does not stand in the truth

because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own

resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

Jesus identifies the devil as the father of all lies.

He lied to Eve in the garden, and he lies to this day and lies are the only weapon he has

against the Saints. Proverbs 174 says this an evil-doer gives heed to false lips.

A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.

Notice, a liar listens eagerly with pleasure to the person with a tongue full of spite.

And what is spite? I think the dictionary has a great definition.

Says malicious, usually petty, desire to harm, annoy,

frustrate, or humiliate another person.

Bitter ill will, malice.

And that sums it up nicely.
