Central New Mexico is home to a small town with a rather unusual name.

Originally called Hot Springs, the town changed its name in 1950 after a popular radio

host announced that he would air the show's 10th anniversary episode from the first town

that named itself after his radio show.

So on March 31 of 1950, Hot Springs officially changed its name to Truth or Consequences,

and the program's 10th anniversary show was held there the following night.

Truth or Consequences, or TRC, as it's sometimes called, was home to only 4,700 citizens

back then, and the population hasn't exactly ballooned since, but as in 1970, the population
