Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host Chris Christensen. I'm back from New Zealand and getting back to this study. Again, this is part five. If you have not heard the first four, I suggest you pause this one and go back and listen to those first.

As you know, we've been looking at parenting from the point of view of the fruit of the spirit from the Galatians 5 passage as being that that should describe to us what a mature Christian is like and therefore

how we should behave in our relationships with one another, especially with our relationships

with children. And so we're looking at the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,

goodness, kindness, gentleness, long suffering, and self-control. And today we're going to look at

two of those which are gentleness and kindness., and self-control. And today we're going to look at two of those

which are gentleness and kindness. And we'll be getting back to one that I skipped over there next

week. This will probably be a six or seven part series, so we're getting close to winding this down.

So as we look at gentleness and kindness, I'd like to think of them in two different ways.

I'd like to think that kindness are the things that we do, and gentleness is the way that we do them.

So we perform kind acts towards one another, towards our children or towards others, and we act in a way that is gentle in our behavior. I'm hoping that makes some sense. And so let's look at these two. This is not the only place where these two are mentioned, so we're going to throw out a couple other verses as well. When we talked about the love of money in a previous study, we read from 1 Timothy 6, for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many

griefs. We did not go on to do the next section, which is, but you, man of God, flee from all

this, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight

of faith, take hold of eternal life to which you were called

when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. Or from 1. Peter 3,

verses 15 through 16. But in your heart set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an

answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have, but do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience so that those who speak

maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

And again from Colossians 3, verse 12, therefore as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with

compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. And again from Peter, from 2. Peter 1,

verses 5 through 7, for this reason, for this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith
