First and foremost, Latter-day Saints believe in salvation through Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith is a witness of Jesus Christ.

Joseph Smith himself didn't claim perfection, didn't claim that he was anything other than a prophet,

but he was a human person. He did make mistakes.

And that's part of the marvel and the wonder is what God was able to do through his flawed servant, Joseph Smith.

In the final moments of their lives, they didn't falter.

That's what they really believed.

And that's the kind of men they really were.

Nobody has brought forth more scripture in the history of the world as far as we know than Joseph Smith.

but we're not talking about revelations received by Joseph Smith today. We're doing section 135,

which is a notice. It's an announcement. It's a declaration about Joseph Smith's death. And we're doing section 136, which is the sole revelation in the doctrine

and covenants that was received by Brigham Young. So I feel like we've we've moved

into a new epoch, a different era. Noticably, there are much fewer

revelations received by Joseph Smith's successors that have been canonized in our

doctrine of covenant. We actually want to talk about that this week, why that might be.

This is the end of the life and ministry of Joseph Smith.

Like you said, Section 135 was written not as a revelation, but as an announcement

or as a declaration to mark the martyrdom of both Joseph and his brother Hiram Smith in Carthage

jail, June 27th, 1844.
