Summary

We live in an era of runaway design, where tech that once seemed to solve all of our problems has gone on to cause unintended consequences. Think about social media’s effect on our collective mental health. Or the once miraculous material known as plastic becoming an environmental hazard. But we can’t predict the future, so what can we do?  In this episode, designers from Stanford’s d.school, Carissa Carter and Scott Doorley, discuss their book “Assembling Tomorrow,” which thinks quite uniquely about design and offers ideas and practices for building and engaging with technology in a way that helps us flourish.  Show Notes  Resources mentioned this episode:  "Assembling Tomorrow" by Carissa Carter and Scott Doorley  "The Technological Society" by Jacques Ellul  Similar No Small Endeavor episodes:  Anna Lembke and John Mark Comer: The Price of the Pursuit of Pleasure  Meghan O’Gieblyn: Will AI Destroy Humanity?  David Brooks: Can We Save Society by Knowing Each Other?  PDF of Lee’s Interview Notes  Transcription Link Want more NSE? Hi, friends, Annie F Downs here. If you've ever felt overwhelmed, distracted, or unsure where to

0:05.7

begin when it comes to reading scripture, I want to invite you to read the Gospels with me every

0:10.3

month. That's Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Every day on the Let's Read the Gospels podcast

0:15.8

is an invitation to slow down and spend intentional time with Jesus through Scripture.

0:21.3

I started reading through the Gospels in a month because I kept trying to read the whole Bible

0:25.3

in a year and would find myself getting behind and getting frustrated.

0:28.8

So I asked myself, what if I just started with the Gospels?

0:32.2

And it turns out I kept wanting to read them over and over, and it has changed my life.

0:37.6

If you do three chapters a day for 30 days, you get all four books read in a month, and we've

0:42.4

been doing that on the Let's Read the Gospels podcast for years now.

0:46.7

Every day on the Let's Read the Gospels podcast, we read three chapters, and then I end

0:51.5

with a prayer.

0:52.3

That's it.

0:52.8

It's simple, and each episode is around 15 minutes

0:55.5

of your day. Every month, we read a different version of the four Gospels and in different

1:00.4

order, so you can scroll back and pick your favorite, or you can just hit play on today's

1:04.8

episode and listen along with the version we've chosen for that month. I say it often because

1:10.2

I believe it. You don't have to

1:11.7

be in the Gospels every day to be changed, but every day you're in the Gospels will change you.

1:17.2

Subscribe today to the Let's Read the Gospels podcast and let's spend a month together reading about

1:21.8

Jesus's life and ministry on earth, the friendships, the parables, the sacrifices, the meals,

and the miracles. I promise you, it will change you. The Let's Read the Gospels podcast is available for you today.
