1:05.2 | Western hemisphere. She came from Haiti with less than $150 to her name. And when |
1:11.1 | her first jobs was down in Miami, Florida, my mom was working in the hotels as |
1:15.2 | a maid. She would make up the beds. That's why till this day is I travel around |
1:19.4 | the world and I stay at different hotels. I always leave a generous tip team |
1:23.3 | national because at one point that was my mother making up those hotel beds. One |
1:34.6 | of my mom's second jobs is she worked in a purse factory. It was a factory with no |
1:38.8 | air condition. My mom stood on her feet for eight hours a day and as the |
1:42.6 | purses came down the assembly line, she reversed the purses and prepared them |
1:46.5 | for stitching. It was a job that a lot of people didn't want. But here's what I |
1:50.3 | realized that my mom understood that sometimes you got to be one to do the |
1:54.0 | things today that others won't do so that you can have the things tomorrow that |
1:57.6 | others won't have. And after 22 years of being here in this country, working |
2:08.8 | all kind of odd jobs, going from opportunity to opportunity, my mom finally found |
2:14.1 | her golden operatives. She always wanted to become an entrepreneur and she saw |
2:18.6 | a free standing building and she said that would be a perfect place for me to |
