Carol Lynn Pearson is one of the most successful Mormon authors, poets, and playwrights of all time. Her book"Goodbye, I Love You" about the death of her gay husband from AIDS took the world by storm in 1986. Her musical"My Turn on Earth" is one of the most successful Mormon musicals of all time. Carol Lynn has spent all her years since"Goodbye, I Love You" as an advocate for both women and gays within Mormonism.

0:53.0	Carolyn, welcome to Mormon Stories Podcasts.
0:55.3	John, I thank you for inviting me. I'm grateful to be here.
1:00.4	Well, I have to warn you upfront, give you a little disclaimer that I may not be at my complete best today during interview.
1:09.2	But I want to tell you why. There's three reasons. And this is not a setup, this is factual.
1:16.2	The first reason is this book, Goodbye Love You, which I believe you published first in 1986,
1:24.8	which we'll be discussing as the main frame for today's interview.
1:29.9	It says here, the true story of a wife, her homosexual husband, and a love that transcended tragedy.
1:39.3	Should say a Mormon wife that I realize why they didn't do that.
1:43.5	The second reason that I haven't been getting enough sleep lately is this second book, No More Goodbye's.
1:50.7	Circling the wagons around our gay loved ones, also by you.
1:57.5	And the third reason is one that sort of confirms at times my belief in some supreme power being when I'm feeling a little less confident.
2:08.1	And that's that this morning at 6 a.m. after getting to bed well past one in the morning.
2:13.5	I received a call from an old friend.
2:16.9	And the old friend had no idea what I was doing this morning.
2:20.7	He had no idea that I interviewed Bruce Bastion a week or two ago.
