Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Mormon Stories podcast. I'm your host John DeLin. Today we are now in part three of

our interview with Liz Lampson. I am joined by my partner in truth and righteousness Margie DeLin. Hey Margie. Hey, babe. Thanks for joining. Yeah, my pleasure.

For those who didn't watch parts one and two, we've had an amazing series so far with Liz.

As we were talking to Liz about the themes, I just want to kind of give a quick recap. Liz was born. If I remember

me right and Liz will correct me, she was born to an African-American father from Louisiana and a South Korean mother,

kind of a biracial interracial marriage, raised vaguely Catholic but not super religious.

And in part one, Liz advanced kind of three themes for part one, which were abandonment, adolescence and atonement.

It talks about how Liz's mother abandoned or left the family when Liz was around 10 years old.

And how that was very difficult for her and for the family, how she made some friends who were members of the

Church of Jesus Christ of the LDS Church and became what I think she called a dry Mormon

and all throughout her high school years growing up in Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

And how in her adolescent years, she found her way, but the Mormon Church was a very important part of her adolescence

even though her father would not allow her to get baptized. And there were also some themes around dating

and sexuality or modesty culture, love, chastity, kind of stuff. Anyway, it's a really important part one.

groundwork for parts three and four, which we're covering today.

Soz Part One and then part two, Liz actually ends up going to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

As a non-Wormon, she's there on a music scholarship where she played the bass, the stand-up bass,

four BYU's most elite orchestra toward the world with BYU and started trying to date and got baptized at BYU.

So the themes that she advanced for part two were BYU baptism and boyfriends. And again, really important episode,

please go watch that. And it culminates in Liz sort of realizing that she actually enjoyed Mormonism more

when she was not an official member because once she started experiencing the worthiness interviews
