Welcome back to the Quoted Day Show. I'm your host, Sean Crox and the

Sean Crox and .com. You've got Eric Thomas on this show today and I love

today's clip because Eric Thomas is just speaking what I think is the truth

which is it doesn't matter where you come from. You can still become successful.

It doesn't matter. You can be dirt poor right now. It has happened before.

And you can become incredibly successful. And the thing is these days when a

black person comes out and says, Hey, I'm successful. I did it in America. I came

from nothing. You can do it too. There are people who will very loudly come out

and say, that's not true. That that successful person is the exception to the

rule that they're the outlier and how dare they say that you should pull

yourself up by your bootstraps because you don't have any bootstraps. And I

think what that teaches people is to be helpless and hopeless. That that

successful person is somehow different from you and you can't do what they did.

It's impossible for you, which robs you of a sense of agency. It tells you that

you are unable to direct your own life because of your circumstances and the

country that you live in. I've talked about this a little bit on Tuesday's

episode. But look at Eric Thomas. Look at his story. Look at so many other

minority people or people who came from nothing who have been able to completely

turn their life around because to them in their minds, they believed that it

didn't matter where they came from. That you can do it too. And so he's going to
