Summary

In this festive edition of Fortunately, Fi Glover and Jane Garvey are joined by special guest Dawn French. The actor, comedian and writer discusses her new book Because of You and her return as The Vicar of Dibley. Dawn also tells Fi and Jane about a very memorable corporate dinner, how a meeting in a sunlit room changed her life and the time she spotted Santa Claus. Before their guest's arrival, Garvey and Glover reflect on the year gone by and go through a 'corking' bunch of listener emails. Get in touch: [email protected]

Jane Garvey and Fee Glover or Fee and Jane as we like to call them.

I know that there will be some people for you who've never heard this twaddle before,

0:24.4

and it's been going a while, so we probably ought to acknowledge just how long it's been going

0:30.3

and just how much twaddle we've talked, but also welcoming listeners to a genuine community

0:36.8

that now exists around. Yes, isn't it? Fortunately, which is great.

I think one of the weird things that has happened this year is that our perspective of time has just

0:44.7

changed, doesn't it? Because sometimes you can think it's been the longest seven or eight months

0:50.8

0:57.2

very small box. I honestly can't remember how many years would be too unfortunately. I can't

1:01.9

remember the pre-pandemic part of it. It's certainly longer than three years, but I can't

remember. I can't remember. Isn't that funny? But anyway, welcome aboard. So, Jane and I sit down

together and we talk about stuff. It doesn't really have any more of a set of criteria than that,

1:19.7

and then I guess toddles along. And back in the day, we used to do this al fresco, didn't we, Jane?

1:25.7

Which doesn't mean that we were naked. It means we were outside in the piazza of broadcasting house,

1:30.4

with scraping chairs, people from the one show, Alan Yentob. It was all there. What's now? We're

1:36.8

stuck in our homes. And I'm in East London and James in East West Kensington, and we've been

1:42.2

chatting on Zoom like the rest of the world from the last nine months. And I should say that,

1:46.8

like everybody else, our lives have been really weird over the last year. And this has been,

1:51.6

this has been an audio place of safety, and a way that allows us to debrief and download,

1:59.2

and just get stuff off our heaving bosoms. And we've been joined in that mission by listening

2:05.3

to the podcast. So, we want to thank them all for emailing in such a number and just providing
