I thought in the beginning this was going to be one part.

Then I thought, okay, I'll do it in two, but really,

I think it's going to be three.

We are discussing the 1995 murder of a

95 Santa Ana, California resident named Gonzalo Ramirez.

In March of 1995, Gonzalo had a chance encounter with a than 20 year old college student named Patricia Esparza.

The day after they first met, Patricia alleged that Gonzalo had sexually assaulted her in her

dorm.

She did not report the rape to law enforcement, though she did confide in one person,

an ex-boyfriend, Johnny Van.

Three weeks later, Gonzalo's mutilated body

was discovered off the side of the 405 freeway in the city of Irvine.

Despite some promising leads, the case grew cold.

Meanwhile, Patricia went on to earn her PhD in psychology.

She married.

She had one child, a daughter, and she moved to France,

where she was a professor at a university

in neighboring Geneva, and her ex-boyfriend and other suspects

thought to have been involved in the murder went on about their lives as well.
