Hello and welcome to the history of China. Episode 170, stay of execution. Last time we left the besieged Song Dynasty round about the death of the second great con of the Mongols, Ogaday, in 1241.

As I intoned then, this left to the Mongol Empire in a strange state of flux.

So today we're going to begin with a general overview of what was going on in both Mongolia and song China that would result in most of the 1240s being a curious period of relative peace
