Okay, everybody, welcome to the musical explaining podcast. I am your host,

Kavita Herion. And I'm Lindsay Ellis. And we are here today to talk about a musical,

a recently deceased king. Yeah. We decided to go against, I shouldn't say go against,

but we decided to break our rules. Well, I mean, here's the thing, because this, yeah,

I mean, like the thing about the rules is I feel like people are getting confused,

because we keep getting bad recommendations. Um, you know, people will be like,

oh, do a little shop of horrors or oh, do hairspray or mean girls, because they think

musicals based on movies. And it's like, no, that wasn't, it was musicals that started

as movies by which we mean stuff like, you know, La La Land and Mulan Rouge or, you know,

phantom of the paradise musicals that began their musical life as movies first, like Mary

Poppins or basically every Disney movie. Yes. You know, you have stuff that like a little shop

of horrors, which was a movie and then a stage musical and then a movie musical that does not count.

That said, we are totally breaking every rule today by looking at the 1965 film adaptation

of The Sound of Music. Just to further confuse everybody. Yeah, just a confuse it further.

But yeah, this is kind of something I kind of wanted to do, because I'm like, I didn't,

I really didn't have any interest in the stage version of The Sound of Music.

It seems almost sacrilege to have one, honestly, considering that this film exists.

Yeah, yeah, this film is so beloved. Yeah, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer,

who I just think it was like, it's kind of wild that, you know, both of them were still alive

up until pretty recently. Yeah, it's crazy. This movie is 50 years old, almost 50 years old.
