The airport was so small that your workstation almost forced you to work alongside other jobs. In this case,

I worked in sales and we were stationed next to the wheelchair lane, which typically had one wheelchair

in it. I was only 19 when this incident happened. I tended to be a sweet person who went out of my way to start conversations with people

There was practically nobody flying, and there would be more workers than passengers around.

This is where I'll introduce Mike. He was in his early 20s,

and was one of the wheelchair pushers. He typically looked completely out of it, and he didn't seem

talkative. Mike and I worked side by side in our respective lanes. He would usually come to give the person in the wheelchair lane

their lunch break and then proceed to go back to pushing people in wheelchairs throughout the airport.

The 30 minutes we saw each other every day were completely quiet. They were awkward as well,

until one day.

He overheard my coworkers and me having a conversation about depression.

Once he overheard this, he sat up in his chair and chimed in.
