But as a teenage girl who was going to hang out with her friends and a bunch of guys,

I obviously picked the biggest park with the most to do and the least amount of people around.

For some context, I'll just say this park is down the street from a few

halfway houses and work release programs for recently released criminals. Most of the time,

the people in these homes and programs with free time don't have anywhere to go, so they just

end up at this park just to have a change

of scenery. So when my friends and I go there, it's generally likely that there are some sketchy

people whom we have to watch out for. On this day in particular, the guys we were with were boring.

So my friends and I were just sitting on the sidewalk talking and half listening to them

when a girl walked up to us.

While I'm not naive, especially in this park and especially in the area where I live,

I am a girl and I won't turn away from a young girl.

I especially won't turn away from a young girl who was crying, upset,

and missing her shoes and phone, just like the girl who was approaching us. The girl asked me

if she could use my phone to make a call. Now, I was hesitant, of course, because I had thought

this girl could run away with my phone, but again, I decided I'd rather help her just in case she genuinely needed the help.

So I offered her my phone, and she held on to it for a few minutes before beginning to cry again.

She then stated that she couldn't remember anyone's number, so she couldn't make a call.
