Hey Israel Story listeners, it's Mishi.

Today, in the midst of a lot of chaos, grief, and pain, we mark a scheduled day of morning.

Yomazikharon, or Israel's Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of acts of terrorism.

Unfortunately, over the years and especially with our wartime diaries series,

we've produced countless episodes that relate to the day.

episodes. But here in the feed, we want to highlight one in particular, our 2017 episode

I never wrote

poem of mine

on commission, on

someone asking me to write.

I always write because

it comes from within

and I feel it in my veins and blood and I take it

into words on my notebook. Okay, that's how I write.

Meet Emmanuel. My name is Immanuel Zabar, and the meaning of Zabar is Sabra.

And Sabra means someone who was born in Israel.

Both of his parents had come from Yemen, but Immanuel, the third of eight children, was already a Sabra.

I was born in 1948, in the Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus, during the War, the Independence War of Israel.
