Summary

Filmmaker and Twitter personality Rob Reiner looked back at the Kennedy/Johnson era through the lens of the Obama era in LBJ (2016), the story of how an idealist's vision can only be achieved by a pragmatism... and how the pragmatist's centrism may or may not have actually camouflaged an idealist the whole time. A piece of Boomer-porn, this movie is unmistakably the vision of a Joe Biden primary voter. PLUS: fiery hot thoughts on the Canadian Conservative Party leadership race, the Ed Markey/Joe Kennedy III battle, and the controversial release of TENET.

Every dark cloud has a silver lining. Living in a pandemic is a hard situation to be in,

1:13.9

but it has produced some great art, and the art I'm talking about is a viral video, a tweet, actually,

1:20.8

a tweet video that went around this week, which is maybe the funniest thing I've ever seen.

1:25.4

And it was from Tom Cruise's Twitter account.

1:28.5

And it was a video that he posted of him going to see the movie Tenet, which has been released theatrically now in much of the world, most of the world.

1:39.0

I think the video showed him going to see it in London.

1:41.8

And it's hard to put your finger quite on why this video is so funny.

1:45.7

You saw it, right? Yeah, it's got this uncanny, kind of slightly timinic editing to it, this

1:51.8

like staccato editing, which just cuts very quickly from one thing to the next. And Cruz just has

1:57.9

this very bizarre, like one dimensional intensity where he's trying to celebrate the film.

2:03.4

But he can't find anything to say about it except, you know, these very Trumpian flourishes where it's like, yeah, it's big.
