outrage plus progressive efforts to achieve economic justice in New York and

elsewhere. Right wing racism rears its ugly head throughout and you'll hear a

clip of Glenn Beck you won't believe. Actually you probably will if you know him.

Let's get right into it. Your sources for this segment include the

Associated Press MSNBC.com, The New York Times, Newsmax.com, MediumHatters.org,

and Reuters.com. Last podcast we discussed the new Arizona immigration law

largely in the context of nearly a half century of GOP right wing racism. You

heard about the Southern strategy, vote caging and bigoted ugly comments and

behavior by prominent present and past right wingers such as Ronald Reagan

and Rush Limbaugh. In kind of a grab bag I want to expand on a point or two and

bring up a few new issues. To start off with defenders of the Arizona

statute never tire of repeating that immigration status can only be checked

when an otherwise lawful stop is made. This is really no restriction at all.

Quote, David Salgado, a Phoenix police officer, said the fact that

officers can check immigration status only after a stop for another reason is

essentially meaningless because quote, you drive two or three blocks down the

street I will find something to pull you over for going over the double line

for getting the signal for a lane change. It's not hard. Close quote. As an

Arizona judge of Hispanic origin put it this has been lifelong these stops.
