Summary

Air Date 11/15/2024

Today's episode is a remix of multiple past episodes but was inspired by one in particular from just back in July of this year, #1645, when we were making a point of demonstrating what a sham the idea of conservative economic populism is. Well, now that Trump has been reelected - seemingly because regular folks were hoping he'd fix the economy for them - we thought we'd take this moment to highlight the difference between right wing and left wing economic populism.

In terms of understanding why people voted for Trump, what were their motivations,

1:07.6

it's really important for us to be careful not to just dismiss all Trump voters as bigots, misogynists, white nationalists. It's more complicated than that. There were a substantial number of people who were clearly motivated by Trump's bigotry. And there were others, maybe a very substantial number,

1:29.3

who voted for him despite those things, not particularly because of death. And we need to be mindful of

1:36.0

that and think about how we actually compete for those people. We must compete for those people.

Again, this was an opportunity for many to vote for change in our honestly
