Summary

Danielle often feels so much guilt about the waste that occurs in her household. Over the past year, she's tried taking certain steps to become a bit "greener," but she has way more work to do trying to raise kids who care more about the planet. In this episode, Jessie helps her realize that any steps towards more sustainability is a win, and we don't have to take huge leaps in our changes, but rather can pick and choose which eco-friendly practices and products work best for us individually and as families. This episode is filled with awesome information, tips, products, and truths to help us all be better citizens of planet Earth.

You just told me you're in Athens, Georgia. Did you grow up in Athens, Georgia? Is this where you grew up?

0:37.0

No, I'm originally from Columbus, Georgia, which is the three-hour staff of Athens, but I went to school at UGA.

0:45.0

And I've moved around a lot, but I ended up coming back to Athens, just couldn't stay away.

0:51.0

So is Athens, Georgia like a very, you know, I feel like there are some places like where my brother lives.

0:57.0

He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland. And I feel like there's just a vibe to it that everybody is sort of more eco-friendly.

1:05.0

Everybody is just more conscientious about the planet and they're part and at all. Whereas where I live, it's not like that at all.

1:13.0

I mean, I think we have like a whole foods, but people go to Whole Foods because they want to, they want like their keto, is that even right?

1:21.0

Keto or whatever they're eating, you know, their palate, paleo. I can't even say the words.

1:27.0

But not be, I don't think it's as much about sustainability. Did you grow up like being sustainable and eco-friendly?

1:34.0

No, not at all.

1:37.0

But where I'm from Columbus is, yeah, kind of like what you're saying. I don't even think there is a Whole Foods in Columbus.

1:44.0

It's like, you know, Windixi, Walmart, that kind of thing. And so I grew up in Columbus. Athens is more sustainable, sustainably conscious, I guess.

1:55.0

But that might be because it's a college town. So there's a lot of young people here. And so I do feel lucky that we kind of have this little oasis where a lot of places in Georgia are not at all sustainably minded.

2:07.0

And so I feel lucky to have that. But yeah, I did not grow up doing, you know, anything related to sustainability.

2:15.0

And so this has all been just stuff that I've learned myself like through the years that I've just kind of experimented with until I've found things that work for me.

2:24.0

Wow. So you didn't, your parents, you didn't grow up in a household that was like, no, definitely not. No, not at all.

2:33.0

Like, right. I mean, it's funny because I don't even think a lot of people that follow me like on Instagram and think, you know, that years ago, before I even was at all into sustainability.

2:45.0

I was the marketing girl for a fast food chicken restaurant, which is like the complete opposite.

2:52.0

You know, like, now I'm like, no single use plastics. And I was selling single use plastics. So it's a completely different thing. And, you know, once you know better, you do better.

3:03.0

So, right. So how did it evolve for you? I'm so interested as somebody who, like, I think you follow me on Instagram. You see, my life is like, it's a shit show. I mean, you know, all like we're good human beings trying our best and everything.
