The topic today is discipleship.

First of all, let's talk about what it means.

What does discipleship mean?

And there are three aspects to discipleship that I have seen in the scriptures.

And those three are deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Christ.

So a disciple is a follower.

So let's look at these aspects one at a time.

So the first aspect of discipleship is to deny yourself.

What does that mean?

Let's look at Matthew 4 verses 18-20.

And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee saw two brothers.

Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen.

Then he said to them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

They immediately left their nets and followed him.

So the disciples left their nets, which means they left their calling.

They were fishermen. They had fishermen skills and a fisherman lifestyle.

But they walked away from it and they did this immediately.

So I would say a big aspect of this idea of denying yourself.

It's just laying aside your own plans, your calling, your preferences, your skill sets.

All of this, you lay aside and you put yourself under the authority of another.
