I began seminary just, oh golly, it must have been 12 years after the famous walkout

of the Concordia seminary faculty in 1974. That's when I began seminary graduated 16 years after

the event. I was always taught that that battle for the Bible was about a method of biblical

interpretation, a low view of scripture if you will, the historical critical method that brought

human reason and all sorts of other considerations into the text and did away with a lot of the

Bible. Well, there was another factor. We weren't taught so much about gospel reductionism.

Turns out that that was actually the bigger factor in that event. And those who were addressing

it at the time were as concerned about gospel reductionism as they were about a low view of

scripture. Greetings and welcome to Issues, etc. I'm Todd Wilkin. It's part two of our retrospective

on the Lutheran battle for the Bible joining us this afternoon. Dr. Ken Sherby as a PhD in

church history from Ohio State University. He's director of evangelism and mission stewardship

and human care for the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church of Missouri Synod.

Formerly served as a theology professor at Concordia University and Arbor, Michigan and as an

assistant to the president of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He's editor of the new book

rediscovering the issue surrounding the 1974 Concordia seminary walk out. Can welcome back.
