Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression, the podcast.

Today's expression is very useful, smooth sailing. S-M-O-O-O-T-H, smooth sailing.

S-M-O-O-T-H, smooth-sailing, S-A-I-L-I-N-G.

So, have you ever been on a sailboat?

Well, neither have I. But we have all heard of Christopher Columbus or Ferdinand Magellan.

Well, those are the American pronunciations. Are you familiar with those famous sailors? Vasco da Gamo?

I think that's his name. Who else is there?

Oh, I know there are many famous sailors around the world with those old ships.

So we can imagine sailing on the ocean.

But we can also imagine it could be very dangerous with the large waves and the storms.

People could die easily.

But sometimes it could be absolutely beautiful with a light breeze and the boat cruising along, not too fast, but the water, very still, very nice. Life is beautiful. That is the idea of

smooth sailing. If something is smooth sailing, there are no problems. Everything is calm,

everything is nice, everything is wonderful. So we could say,

how is your project going? Oh, it's smooth sailing. Everything is wonderful. It's going very well.

How is your life going? Is your life smooth sailing?

Me? No, no, not. It's not terrible, but it sure isn't smooth sailing. There's always storms on the horizon. There are always problems, waves, and winds,

but I'm not complaining.
