Last week I talked about making it joint combining finances,

a unified front dealing with all things that come at you money-wise. Today I'm going to back pedal only a smidge and it was a

planned back pedal and it is this. Everyone needs a little bit of their own, a little bit of space.

When Julie and I first married, we were Baroque, Baroque, and the budget was super tight down to the penny we would worry Julie knew the cost of every single

item at the grocery store that we purchased.

I could say, what do we pay for a can of corn?

She would know. She was just on top of that. We knew

every little penny going in and out and we it was tight. It was exhausting.

Exusting. Exhausting. I remember walking by in the student center at the university.

Walking by there and they have these really delicious old-fashioned donuts that you ask

them to microwave for nine seconds and then you just have them put it on a napkin it's a

little warm soft and you enjoy this old-fashioned donut it costs 50 cents at the time

it probably costs seven dollars now but at the time. It probably costs $7 now, but at that time 50 cents. It is

delicious, especially when you warm it up for the nine seconds. So I remember

distinctly walking by that place where you can buy the 50-cent old-fashioned donut and recognizing that I could not buy it because it was not in the budget and it was depressing.

And that went on for a little while. it was depressing.

And that went on for a little while. And we'd only been doing this budget,

then we only been married for three weeks at the time,

and we'd been doing the budget for three weeks.

And I came home to Julie and bless her heart she's much heartier than I am.
