Summary

Clay Jenkinson is joined by sports historian Kurt Kemper of Dakota State University and sports fan David Nicandri of Washington State. Our subject: the Caitlin Clark phenomenon. Clark of the University of Iowa now holds the NCAA collegiate basketball record for most career points in either the men’s or women’s league. What is next for her? How does her sudden national celebrity impact the game? How many thousands of girls are out on the driveway practicing their dribble and their jump shots thanks to her example? What should we make of the game's marketing team pitting Clark, who is white, against Angel Reese, an African American?

weekly consumer of television sports, and I have no child currently in any sporting

activity whatsoever. Although my daughter at Oxford has been getting into Archery which I don't think counts. All right, so, Kurt, let me start with you.

You have written a book called Before March Madness, The Wars for the Soul of College Basketball,

0:58.9

one of the two books that really caught my attention.

The other thing I know is that Caitlin Clark of Iowa has now

1:04.0

scored more points than any other person in the history of the NCAA boys or girls. So Kurt, pick it up from there.

1:10.1

Well, yeah, so I can't admit that I am much of an expert on women's college basketball, the book that I wrote focused entirely on the origins of the men's tournament.

1:18.8

However, one of the things that my book does touch on is the way in which the NCAA has managed to

1:27.0

slay all competitors. My book mostly focuses on the way in which they completely delegitimated the NAA, the National Association for

Intercollegiate Athletics, but I make brief reference at the end that the patterns that were
