Hey there, so glad to have you today on the Beginners Garden podcast.

0:04.9

I've got a question for you.

0:06.7

What do you think is the biggest mistake that home gardeners make when it comes to composting?

0:12.3

It's kind of a trick question.

0:14.3

And maybe it's a little biased on my part.

0:17.4

But based on the feedback that I get and the questions that I get, I think the biggest mistake

0:22.6

is that we overcomplicate it. I think that's a pretty easy mistake to make because if you ever

0:30.1

start to research composting, it does seem quite foreign and you're trying to figure out a

0:35.2

formula and how to do it perfectly. If you've

0:38.6

listened to recent podcast episodes here, you may have heard me talk about composting quite a bit,

0:44.3

not specifically in context of one episode like we're talking about today, but I've just

0:48.8

talked about it here and there about how important it is. And maybe that's the reason why I've

0:53.8

gotten a lot of questions on

0:55.5

the topic recently. As I continue to talk to people about composting individually via email or

1:02.1

by Instagram, I decided that this was a topic we needed to revisit. We have done other podcast

1:08.5

episodes in the past. I'll be referring to those in this episode and also in the links in the show notes.

1:14.7

But I really wanted to revisit this, especially the more and more that I am in my garden

1:19.1

and I'm seeing how beneficial and important composting is to our garden.

1:24.1

I felt it be a great time for us to talk about how to simplify compost for the

1:30.6

organic home vegetable gardener. Hi, I'm Jill, and in 2013, I started my first garden,

1:38.0

having no background, knowledge, or experience whatsoever. Now I am embarking on my eighth season

1:43.7

of growing my own vegetables,
