Oh boy, today's expression is very good.

Listen carefully, to hang your hat on something.

To hang, H-A-N-G, to hang your hat, H-A-T, you know, like a baseball hat or a winter hat or a gangster hat from the 1940s, to hang your hat on something.

Okay.

So think of this.

A long time ago on TV, American TV, American movies, you know, outside, men would

wear a hat, you know, a nice, nice looking hat with a suit.

And when they went inside somebody's house, they would take off their hat and they would

hang it on something.

There's something by the door, either a coat rack or there's some sort of peg, PEG, that they can hang their

hat on.

Okay?

So that's what the expression means to hang your hat on something.

It means to put your hat someplace to keep it safe.

Well, in daily English, this expression actually means to depend on something or to rely on something.

Do you understand? So you often hear the expression like this. There's not a lot to hang your hat on. And what that means is

there's not enough information. There's not very much information to rely on, to believe in.

So here's another example.

Let's say you are lonely and you want to meet somebody, but you don't know how.
